What are School Governors?
School Governors are a small group of people that have given their time to help govern the school. They have many different roles, but can perhaps best be described as 'critical friends'. They check the school is working effectively and efficiently as well as providing support for staff and children. The main way in which they perform this role is by attending meetings and discussing various aspects of school life.
We have various 'types' of people who make up the Governing Body....
Firstly, there are Staff Governors who are people who work in school. The headteacher is one of these governors.
We also have a number of Parent Governors. These are made up of parents of children at the school.
The Local Authority can nominate a person to represent them on our Governing Body. This might be a local councillor or somebody who has put their name forward to the authority as a potential governor.
As a Church of England school we also have a small number of Foundation Governors. Their role is to represent the local parish and the diesis.
Finally, we have Co-opted Governors. These are members of the local community (residents, buisiness people etc) who are prepared to volunteer their time and experiences to the school.
Another very important person in the Governors is the Clerk. The Clerk to the Governors ensures that meetings are arranged and information is circulated. They also take the minutes of the main Governor meetings.
